Prayer by George Washington:
I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the state over which you preside, in His holy protection, that He would incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field, and finally, that He would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy nation.

Prayer for Government Leaders to Have a Heart of Justice:
Romans 13:1 “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
Lord, you are witnessing the division in our country. Many people have lost faith in our government and its ability and willingness to serve justice on an equal basis. My heart aches for my country. I humbly ask that you would guide and direct those who are in positions of leadership in our government. Give them a heart for justice and a desire to serve the common good. Remove all self-centered motives in their hearts and open their eyes to the good of all citizens.
Father, we need men and women in government who are fearless and will do what is right in your eyes. We need people who will stand on your principles even when standing alone. Help them to be strong and courageous in the face of challenges, and to always seek your will in all they do. As they seek Your will, I pray they make decisions based on the will of the people. May they put aside their selfish ambitions and truly love our country and make decisions for the betterment of our country.
We pray that our government may be a beacon of hope and a model of good governance for the world. May it work to promote peace, justice, and the common good, and may it be a blessing to all who live within its borders.
We pray that you would bless our leaders with your presence and your guidance, and that you would use them to bring about positive change in our nation and around the world.
In your holy name we pray, Amen.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Prayer for Christians to Serve in Our Government:
1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Father God,
You know there is much division in our country. Much of the division has been caused by those serving in our government. We know the only hope for our country is Jesus Christ. As I look to the future of our country, I pray for Christians to step up and serve in government positions. I pray that you would call men and women of faith to run for office and to use their positions of power and influence for your glory.

I ask that you would give these individuals wisdom, courage, and discernment as they navigate the complexities of our political system. Help them to seek your guidance in all that they do, and to be driven by a desire to serve you and to make a positive impact on the world around them.
My heart is for those Christians in leadership positions to govern in a godly manner. Let their light shine before all citizens, Christians and non-Christians, so that they may be an example of God’s people. May their witness bring others to know Jesus Christ.
Lord, we know that the world can be a dark and difficult place, and that the challenges we face are many. But we also know that with you, all things are possible. So we pray that you would raise up leaders who are unafraid to stand for what is right, who are guided by your truth, and who are committed to making the world a better place.
Above all, we pray that your will would be done in our government, and that your kingdom would come on earth as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
Matthew 12:15 “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.”
Prayer for Unity of the Officials in Our Government:
Matthew 12:25 “Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.”
Sovereign God,
My heart aches for the division in our nation and our government. The conflicts are such a distraction from the work our government was designed to do. I come before you with a heavy heart, seeking your guidance for the officials who serve in our government. I recognize that unity among our leaders is crucial for the well-being of our nation and community, and I ask that you help them work together in harmony and with a spirit of cooperation.
I speak Jesus over all members of government. I bind the spirit of conflict, division, and selfishness. Open the eyes and hearts of all members, revealing the damage that is being done to our community and nation. Set their eyes on you as they govern. Please grant them the wisdom to make sound decisions that benefit all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations or backgrounds. Help them to put aside their differences and personal agendas for the greater good of our country.
Lord, I ask that you politically remove any person(s) in our government who isn’t focused on leading with integrity. Reveal their intention to the voting citizens. I pray the voters elect officials who will honor and govern according to my nation’s Constitution or ruling documents.
I pray that the members of different parties find common ground. Give them a spirit of negotiation and cooperation as they come together to make decisions. During this process, may they make decisions on what is best for their citizens. Rise up a spirit of cooperation that will bring honor Jesus Christ.
Romans 14:19 “So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.”
Above all, Lord, we ask that you pour out your love and grace upon our officials, and that you bless them with hearts full of compassion and understanding for the people they represent.
We pray all of these things in your holy and precious name.
Amen.
1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.”

Prayer for Our Government to Uphold the US Constitution:
James 2:12 “So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.”
Father God,
I praise you for the guidance and work our Founding Fathers did when they assembled to develop the ruling documents for our land. We come before you today to pray for our government and its leaders. We ask that you guide them in upholding the values and principles set forth in the US Constitution, the cornerstone of our republic.

I pray that you open the eyes of all government leaders so that they may govern based on the alienable God-given rights set forth in the Constitution. Father, each member of government vows to uphold the US Constitution as they serve the citizens. Give each member clarity of the content so they can lead accordingly. Give each elected official the desire to delve into the Constitution and its development so they understand exactly what the Founding Fathers’ intended.
Father, have them recognize the importance of protecting individual rights and freedoms, promoting the general welfare, and ensuring equal justice under the law for all. Remove any personal agendas members may have.
We pray that our government will remain true to the ideals that have made our nation great, and that our leaders will have the courage to stand up for what is right, even in the face of opposition.
May our government always be a force for good in the world, promoting peace and prosperity for all people. I pray America remains a beacon of freedom, peace, and opportunity to all the nations of the world.
We ask all of these things in your holy name.
Amen.
Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.”

Prayer for the Staff Members in Our Government:
Proverbs 21:3 “To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.”
Faithful Father,
I pray for the staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes in our government, providing support to our elected officials and helping to keep our republic running smoothly. Lord, I know many of them to do the critical background work of elected officials. Because of this, I feel strongly to pray that these support workers have a heart of justice for all citizens. I pray that these workers make decisions on the governing documents of our Founding Fathers and chose to honor you.
2 Corinthians 8:21 “For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man.”
I ask that you bless them with strength and endurance as they carry out their duties, often under challenging and stressful circumstances. Please grant them wisdom and discernment in their work, so that they may be able to provide sound advice and make wise decisions. I also ask that you help them to maintain a spirit of service and selflessness, always putting the needs of others ahead of their own.
I pray that you would give them a sense of purpose and fulfillment in their work, knowing that they are making a valuable contribution to our community and nation. May they continue to serve with dedication and commitment, knowing that their efforts are appreciated and valued by all.
I ask all of these things in the name of our Lord Jesus.
Amen.
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…”

Prayer for Our Government to Be a Beacon of Hope to the World:
John 8:32 “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Father of Peace,
I come before you today to pray for our government and its leaders. May they always govern with the citizens of our nation at the forefront. Let my country be a shining light unto the world so others can see how a republic operates when the welfare of the citizens is paramount. Father, as I lift my leaders up in prayer, I pray the power of the Holy Spirit gives them a heart of justice, peace, and prosperity.
Help our government to be a force for good in the world, promoting the well-being of all people and working to alleviate suffering and poverty. When budgets are developed, let the focus be on providing services for the citizens of my nation first. Give my government the wisdom to budget for areas of humanitarian relief to other citizens of the world.
May our government be a shining example of justice and fairness, treating all people with dignity and respect regardless of their race, religion, or nationality. May our nation continue to be a source of hope and inspiration to all people, showing the world the power of your love and grace. Grant our government wisdom as they create laws that allow a legal means for persecuted individuals to enter my country.
Father, I stand on the fact you are the Waymaker for all requests. I pray all of these things in your holy name.
Amen.
