Prayer to Cultivate More Joy in My Life

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Heavenly Father,

I praise you for the opportunity to kneel at your feet and ask for personal intervention. You are always faithful when I feel a little off-kilter. The trials of life and the unrest throughout the world have weighed me down. I am confident in your ability to work in my life. I come before you in gratitude for the gift of joy that springs from your boundless love. As I seek to become a more joyful person, I turn to your Word for guidance and inspiration.

In Philippians 4:4, your Apostle Paul encourages us to rejoice always. Lord, help me find joy even in the midst of challenges, knowing that my strength comes from you. Let Psalm 16:11 be my guide: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy.” Guide me to spend more time with you and in your Word. Your Word is oil to my soul; help me to keep my focus there rather than whatever tries to steal my joy.

Grant me the discernment to choose joy over worry and trust in your promises. Give me the self-discipline to turn to you and your Word rather than listen or read about world events. Your world and creation are a vital source of joy. I pray to be immersed in what is pleasing to you. Teach me to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit, especially joy; make my focus a time to “be still and know that You are Lord.” In the stillness, cleanse my mind of anything that isn’t joyful.

Lord, fill my heart with the joy that surpasses understanding. In moments of doubt or sorrow, let me cling to the assurance found in Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Use my joy to be a source of encouragement to those around me. Lord, I want to be a beacon of hope to those who are feeling the weight of the world. Make my joy contagious as I interact with those around me.

As I embark on this journey to become a more joyful person, I place my trust in you, my source of everlasting joy. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
