Prayer to Guard Against Temptation:
Job 1:10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.“
Lord, today I lift my myself (family or others) up to you. I am praying Psalm 91 where your blood is the hedge of protection around believers. I am asking You to place a hedge of protection around me (or name others). It hides me from the enemy, familiar spirits and demonic spirits, making it difficult, if not impossible, for them to effectively track me in the spiritual realm. According to your word in Psalm 91, there will be no perforations or penetrations into these protective fences. I know that you will answer this prayer because I love you and trust in your name alone. I pray that Your blood Lord Jesus covers me and all that You have given me. That the enemy will not have access to what has been given to me.
Lord, you one of the main ways Satan attacks your people is through thoughts. I pray you put a hedge around my thoughts. Sometimes my thoughts wander to the what-ifs and should-haves. I realize that gets into a lack of faith as to what you have planned. Please take my negative thoughts captive. Help me focus on what is good, honorable, and pure. Guide me in seeking the mental hedge of protection from the Holy Spirit as he fills my mind with peace, joy, righteousness, compassion, and love.
I need help with controlling my actions, Lord. I want to be the bible some people never read. I desperately want your light to shine through me. So, Lord, when I am about to act in a way that is not loving or respectful, I ask you to give me a mental check.
Protect me, Father, from temptation and from falling into old patterns of behavior. Surround me with a hedge of caring people who will lovingly point out that I am behaving in ways that are not Christian. Remind me that I am a new creature in Christ and place barriers to prevent me from acting in ways that would grieve you.
Psalm 34:13 “Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.” I pray that you help me in guarding my tongue. I need help in guarding my tongue and not speaking evil. I want my words to glorify you and be pleasing to your ears. I ask that you put a hedge of protection around the words that proceed from my mouth. As you continue to guard my heart, the words flowing from my heart will bring comfort and healing to the ears of others.
I stand firm in knowing you are faithful to complete that which you have started. Amen
Prayer to Control Lustful Desires:
1 Corinthians 6:13 “You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.”
Everywhere I turn, I see the world seems to have sexualized everything. I come before you today to ask for your help in overcoming my lustful desires. I know that these desires are not in line with your will for my life and they have the power to harm me and others.
Please give me the strength and self-control to resist temptation and to turn my thoughts and actions towards that which is pure and holy. Help me to find my identity and worth in you, and to cultivate a heart that is full of love and self-control. I pray you send me an accountability partner to help me with these unholy desires. I have tried on my own but it seems I fail way too often. I recognize this is separating me from our relationship. It is my desire to grow deeper in your Word so that my closeness to you is the hedge I need. 2 Timothy 2:22 “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
I pray that you would change my heart and transform my thoughts, so that I may honor and glorify you in all that I do. I trust in your goodness and your love for me, and I ask that you would give me the grace to walk in your ways and to live a life that is pleasing to you.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Psalms 101:3 “I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.”
