7 Prayers to Say Before a Football Game

Whether you’re praying in front of a big crowd or a small group of people you know, it can be tough to come up with prayers before a game. We’ve put together a few prayer ideas for you to pray before a high school football game.

Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even the youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on the wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.

Dear Lord,

We thank for the opportunity to come together tonight for this football game. For the freedom to play and compete, for the camaraderie and sportsmanship, we are truly grateful.

As we embark on another season, we ask for Your protection. Keep our players safe from injury, and help us to remember that it’s just a game. May the outcome be decided by skill and not by chance.

Help us to show good sportsmanship, whether we win or lose. Teach us to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. May the spirit of competition remain strong but never turn sour.

Above all, may this season be a time of fun and enjoyment for all those involved. In Your name we pray, Amen.
