7 Prayers To Develop A Powerful Self Discipline

Prayer to Recognize the Importance of Self Discipline:

Titus 2:12 “Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age…”

Father,

“Self-discipline” is a term thrown around so loosely. I’ve come to realize I have tried to possess strong self-discipline in my life because it is the right thing to do to live a better life. I never meditated on the IMPORTANCE of self-discipline. I come to you today with a humble heart, seeking guidance and strength to recognize the importance of self-discipline in my life. Without discipline, I may struggle to achieve my goals and fulfill my potential.

I realize it is important to you as my Creator. It’s important that I realize I am honoring you and not only taking better care of myself. I want you to be the center of everything I do.

Help me to see the value in making healthy choices in all areas of my life, even when they may not be the easiest or most convenient. Give me the courage to resist temptations and distractions that may pull me away from my path. Constantly remind me as I exhibit self-discipline; I am pointing to you. My self-discipline is a testimony to others in that I care for the temple of the Holy Spirit. Remove the selfish reason and point others to you. Help me recognize when the Evil One tries to distract me from the course of discipline I am set on. Satan has no power over me. My steps are ordered by You; I will draw near to You for the strength of self-discipline,

Please grant me the wisdom to know when to push myself and when to take a step back to find balance in my life. Show me how to cultivate a sense of self-control and determination to achieve my dreams and become the best version of myself.

Thank you for your love and support. May your light guide me on this journey of self-discovery and growth.

Amen.

Prayer for Living in the Present Moment:

Titus 2:12 “Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age…”

Dear Loving God,

You know I constantly deal with a brain that has trouble focusing. This causes problems when I need to be focused–often at the expense of missing opportunities for enjoyment in the present. I seek Your wisdom and guidance today as I strive to live each moment to the fullest. I know that life can often feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to get caught up in worries about the past or fears for the future. But I also know that Your word reminds us to live each day as if it were our last, be mindful of Your presence in all things, and find joy in life’s simple moments.

7 Prayers to Boost My Self Discipline

So, I pray that You would give me the grace to let go of regrets and worries and fully embrace the present moment. Help me trust in Your love and guidance and use my time, talents, and resources to honor You and bring joy to others. Your word tells us we are not to live as on an island, and that we need relationships. Lord, show me times when I go off track and start dwelling on future events rather than cultivating deeper relationships each day.

May I be mindful of Your presence in all I do, and may I find peace and contentment in the here and now. May I be a shining light in this world, reflecting Your love and grace to all those around me.

Thank you for Your never-ending love and mercy and the gift of this moment. I pray all of these things in Your holy name. Amen.

Proverbs 4:25 “Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.”

Prayer for Help in My Goal Setting and Perseverance:

Hebrews 12:11 “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Dear Lord,

I need your help. Sometimes I seem to know what to do, but I don’t do it. Thank you for the gift of life and the ability to make choices. Please help me to develop self-discipline, the ability to control my thoughts, actions, and words.

I know that discipline is not easy, but I must live a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Help me to set goals for myself and to work towards them with determination and perseverance. I pray the power of the Holy Spirit speaks into my spirit, guiding me in setting goals that will glorify your name. As I die to the flesh, I commit to becoming laser focused in working toward the goals you have shown me.

Grant me the strength and motivation to overcome laziness and procrastination and to make the most of every day. Help me to resist temptation and to make wise decisions, even when it is difficult. 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” I surrender daily to your leadership.

Thank you for loving me and for always being with me. I pray that I may grow in self-discipline and become who You created me to be. Amen.

Proverbs 25:28A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

Prayer for Help in Defeating a Bad Habit:

2 Corinthians 10:4 “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”

Heavenly Father

You know the battle I am faced with. Your Son faced the same fleshly battles I do and conquered all of them. I seek your help in defeating a bad habit (name your habit) that has taken hold of me, and this stronghold has a grip on me that only you can defeat. I recognize that this habit harms my well-being and prevents me from living my life fully.

I ask for your strength and guidance as I work to overcome this habit. Help me to develop the willpower and discipline I need to resist temptation and to make healthier choices for myself. I find myself knowing what to do but not doing it. May the power of the Holy Spirit break this bondage I am in. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and my desire is not to defile the temple. I bind the stronghold that has griped me;

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own…”

Please show me this habit’s root causes and help me address them healthily. Help me find new, positive ways to cope with stress and difficult emotions, so I don’t need to turn to this habit for comfort. Lord, show me if I need professional guidance in conquering this bad habit. I surrender to your guidance as I commit to becoming a fully restored child of God.

I trust that with your help, I can overcome this habit and live a happier, healthier life. Thank you for your love and support, now and always. I ask all in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Prayer to Set Healthy Boundaries for Myself:

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Father,

Praise you for continuing to mold me into more of you. I have been dealing with setting personal boundaries. As I study your Word, it is very clear you are a God of order and boundaries. Exodus shows us how precise you are in things you value. I realize I haven’t had the self-discipline to put in place healthy boundaries so that I can accomplish the goals I have set. I have let other people or events get in the way at times. I acknowledge that I have struggled with saying “no” to others and prioritizing my needs and well-being. I understand that setting boundaries is not always easy, but it is necessary for my growth and happiness.

Prayers to Boost My Self Discipline

I ask your help in recognizing my worth and value and honoring my feelings and desires. I have put myself behind the need and requests of others. Please grant me the wisdom and courage to set respectful, firm, and clear boundaries and to communicate them in a kind and compassionate manner. Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

I also pray for the strength to withstand any pushback or resistance I may encounter and to hold fast to my boundaries, even when difficult or uncomfortable.

Thank you for your love and support and for guiding me toward a healthier and happier life. Amen.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.

Prayer for My Motivation and Inspiration:

Romans 12:11 “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

Dear Lord, I need motivation and inspiration. Please guide and give me the strength to pursue my goals and dreams. Help me to find purpose and meaning in the tasks before me and to persevere even when faced with challenges and setbacks.

I pray that you would fill me with your Holy Spirit and that I would be motivated by your love and grace. Please give me the courage to take risks and to step out in faith, knowing that you are with me every step of the way. When Satan attacks me and dampens my plans, help me recognize his voice and rebuke his efforts to harm my process.

Thank you for your faithfulness and the many blessings you have given me. I pray that I may be a blessing to others and that my efforts may bring glory to your name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 2:16 “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

Prayer for a Plan to Read the Bible in One Year:

2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Heavenly Father, This year I am committing to read your Word. Help me with the self-discipline to stay the course. I come to you today seeking your wisdom and understanding as I read your Word. I ask that you open my heart and mind to your message and help me apply it to my life. I pray that you will use this Bible reading time to transform me and lead me closer to you.

Thank you for the gift of your Word. Help me treasure it and read it with an open and receptive heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.”
