7 Prayers to Be More Compassionate and Merciful

Prayer to Give Me the Eyes of Christ:

Luke 6:36 “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.”

Dear Heavenly Father, I repent for not being more compassionate at times. I come to you today asking for your help, increasing my compassion and mercy. I know that these qualities are important for living a life filled with love and understanding for others.

Please help me to see the world through your eyes, to understand that everyone is struggling in their way, and to show them kindness and compassion no matter what they have done or where they come from. I pray you will remove the spirit of selfishness in my life. I refuse to let Satan influence my walk with Jesus.

7 Prayers to Be More Compassionate and Merciful

Help me to be more forgiving and to let go of anger and resentment towards others. Help me to show mercy to those who have wronged me and to extend grace to those who need it most. Lord, you are rich in mercy, to the point of dying for our sins. I want to grow more in my walk to be like you. Ephesians 2:4 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us.”

I pray that you will fill my heart with your love and compassion so that I may be a source of hope and comfort to those around me. Let the light of Jesus flow through my life.

I know I cannot do this alone, and I humbly ask for your help and guidance as I strive to become more compassionate and merciful. I surrender my all to you, allowing you to work in my heart.

In your holy name, I pray, Amen.

Colossians 3:12 “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”

Prayer to Have More Empathy Toward Others:

Colossians 3:12 “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”

Heavenly Father, I want to feel like you feel. I want to see others as you see them. Help me put myself in each person’s place to understand better what others are going through. If I put myself in another person’s place, I may be better able to help them and understand their feelings.

I come before you today seeking your wisdom and guidance. I pray that you will help me to have more empathy toward others. I confess I haven’t looked at others as you have. Soften my heart to love as you love.

I ask that you give me a heart that is sensitive to the needs and feelings of others. Help me to see the world through their eyes, to understand their struggles, and to feel their pain. Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”

I pray that you will allow me to be a good listener and provide comfort and support to hurting people. I pray that you will give me the wisdom to know when to speak and remain silent. I pray for the discernment that comes from you only.

I pray that you will give me the courage to stand up for those who are marginalized and to be an advocate for those who are not able to speak for themselves. Give me the boldness to stand against the world if needed.

I pray that you would give me the patience and kindness to be a good friend and positively influence the lives of those around me. May your love be the first thing others see in me.

I know that true empathy comes from you, and I pray you will fill me with your love and compassion. I trust in your guidance and know that you will help me be a better person; in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”

Prayer to Be a Better Person:

Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…”

Dear God, your Word tells us we are to become more Christlike. Every day I fall short of your expectations, and I have not always been the person I know I can be or who you want me to be. I ask for your forgiveness and help to become a better person.

I pray for your guidance and Holy Spirit to lead me on the path of righteousness and truth. I ask for the strength to resist temptation and overcome the sin that so easily entangles me. I pray for the courage to stand up for what is right, even when difficult, and always seek to do your will. I stand against the powers of darkness that try to entrap me into a life set apart from Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

I ask for your grace to help me grow in love and kindness, to be patient and understanding with those around me, and to show compassion to all those in need. I pray for wisdom to see the world through your eyes and to always seek your will in my interactions with others. I pray the words that flow from my lips are like honey to the ears that hear them.

Thank you for your love and care for me, God, and for being my constant companion and comforter. I trust in your goodness and mercy and pray that your will be done in my life. Amen.

Romans 8:9 “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.”

Prayer to Give Me a Heart to Care for the Sick:

James 5:13-16 “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

Father

I praise you for my health. I never want to take that for granted because many people are sick and hurting. Lord, I want to have the heart to minister to those in nursing homes, hospitals, hospice care, and homebound. I come to you today asking for your guidance and comfort as I care for the sick. I pray for strength, patience, and compassion as I tend to those suffering and in need.

Please grant me the wisdom to know how to best care for them, the courage to make difficult decisions, and the empathy to understand their pain and struggles. Help me see the humanity in each person I care for, treat them with dignity and respect, and provide them with the comfort and care they deserve.

Romans 15:1 “We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.”

Lord, as I minister to these sick people, please guard me against any sickness I may be exposed to. Build my immune system so that no harm can enter my body. I bind all spirits of sickness that may try to attack my body as I serve Jesus. Satan will have no power over me.

Guide me as I navigate the challenges of caring for the sick, and help me to remain focused on their needs and well-being. May my efforts bring relief and healing to those suffering, and may I be a source of comfort and strength to them and their loved ones. Empower my hands to be a source of healing touch as I pray over the sick.

I ask for your continued grace and blessings as I carry out this important work, and I pray that you will watch over all those who are sick and in need of care. Amen.

1 John 3:17-18 “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

Prayer to Give Me Mercy Toward Those Who Have Hurt Me:

Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Merciful Father

I am having trouble dealing with a person who has continually hurt me. Even though he/she has repeatedly asked for forgiveness, he/she repeats the behavior. You have shown me this person has internal wounds causing this behavior. I come to you today seeking your help in extending mercy to this person and others who have hurt me. Forgiving those who have caused me pain and suffering is difficult, but I know that holding onto anger and bitterness only causes further harm to myself and others.

Please give me the strength to let go of the hurt and release any resentment or grudges I may be holding onto. Help me to see those who have hurt me through your eyes with compassion, mercy, and understanding. Fill me with the agape love you extend to all your people.

Grant me the courage to reach out to those who have caused me pain and to extend forgiveness, even if they do not seek it or acknowledge their wrongdoing. Help me to be a vessel of your love and mercy and to offer healing to those who have hurt me.

May my actions reflect the grace and forgiveness you have shown me and serve as a testament to your love and compassion for all. I pray that you will give me the strength and guidance to extend mercy to those who have hurt me and find peace and healing. Remove from me any judgemental thoughts that Satan tries to attack me with.

Thank you for your never-ending grace, love, and opportunity to grow and learn from difficult experiences. Amen.

Luke 6:36 “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.”

Prayer to Increase My Compassion for Innocent Children in Harm’s Way:

Matthew 18:6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Compassionate Father,

It seems as though the culture of the world is in collapse. Children everywhere are in situations that are harming them significantly. I come to you today with a heavy heart and deep concern for the innocent children in harm’s way. I pray for their safety and protection and for an end to the violence, trafficking, and suffering that they are experiencing.

I ask that you wrap your loving arms around these children. Raise churches, organizations, and people willing to intervene when children suffer. Open our eyes to ways to help. Soften the hearts of those who have the financial means to go to the rescue of these children.

Lord, as hard as it is, I know I need to pray for those involved in harming children. I ask that you open their hearts to compassion and understanding and guide them towards peace, non-violence, and a relationship with Jesus. Lord, I trust you will remove all those who are led by Satan and who are harming your innocent children. Convict them of their dark influence, and show them Jesus is the only way to true peace.

I recognize that we all have a role in creating a more peaceful world, and I ask that you give us the courage and wisdom to take the necessary steps toward that goal.

May your love and compassion shine upon these children and their families, and may we all work together to create a world where all children can thrive in safety and peace.

Amen.

Luke 18:16 “But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”

Prayer of Compassion for Those in the Sex Trade Industry:

Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

Compassionate Father,

I come to you today with a heavy heart for those caught in the sex trade industry. I pray for their safety, protection, and release from this exploitative industry. Raise churches, organizations, and individuals who can minister to the people in this horrific industry. I pray your Holy Spirit touches my heart to have more compassion for these people. They are all your creation.

I ask that you wrap your loving arms around them and give them the courage to escape their situation. I pray they may find hope and healing and be surrounded by compassionate people who can support and guide them toward a better life. Put me safely in the life of one or more individuals in this industry. Give me the words to say and the pathway to rescue those I can access. Touch me to see them as a person you created with worth and dignity. I pray you give these workers dreams and visions of what life apart from this industry can be… the real freedom they desire in their hearts.

I also pray for those who are perpetrating this industry. I ask that you open their hearts to see the harm they are causing and guide them toward a path of compassion and respect for all beings. Remove the lust engulfing their lives and the greed of profiting from this industry.

May your love and compassion shine upon those in the sex trade industry, and may we all do our part to support their journey toward freedom and healing. Show them how the Son can set them free.

Amen.
