7 Powerful Prayers for Overcoming an Addiction

Prayer to Remove All Temptation From My Addiction:

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Faithful Father,

I repent for what I’ve let my life become. I have not relied on you for joy and peace. I have tried to find true happiness in things that have harmed my body and relationships with friends, family, and you. It seems the temptation to fall into my sin is everywhere I turn. Today I come to you with a humble heart, asking for your help removing all temptation from my addiction. I have struggled with this addiction for some time now, and I know I cannot overcome it alone.

Please empower me with the Holy Spirit and give me the strength to resist any urges or cravings that may come my way. Help me focus on my recovery path and make positive choices that will benefit my health and well-being. I know you understand temptation because Jesus was tempted in all things of the flesh and never sinned. Guard my mind against the temptations from the fiery darts of evil forces. I stand on your Word! Satan has no power over me. I bind all forces in the heavenlies that are trying to destroy my life,

I ask that you remove any negative influences from my life that may lead me back down the path of addiction. Help me to surround myself with positive and supportive godly people who will encourage me in my journey. Help me stay committed to reading and living Your Word.

Mark 14:38 “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Please guide me towards healthier habits and activities that bring joy and fulfillment. Show me the path towards healing and wholeness, and give me the courage to walk that path with faith and determination. When harmful thoughts enter my mind, pull me to activities that benefit my health.

Thank you for your love and guidance and for always being there for me in my times of need. I trust in your power to help me overcome this addiction, and I know that with your help, anything is possible.

7 Powerful Prayers for Overcoming an Addiction

Prayer for My Broken Relationships as a Result of My Addiction:

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Lord Jesus, I am in great need of your help. Please deliver me from the spirit of addiction. I trust you deliver me and never put me to shame. Shame has engulfed me to the point of paralysis. Pull me out of the web of substance abuse (name substance/activity to overcome), for you are my strength. I have tried on my own but have continued to fail. I am at the point of desperation. Remove my appetite for the substance. Remove all the temptation. Help me stand firm when faced with opportunities to consume and abuse. Remove the friends and acquaintances who aren’t conducive to my recovery.

Lord, I recognized that my substance abuse had fractured my relationships with friends and family. I miss the relationships that should be in my life. Heal me both in my addictions and in my relationships. I pray my friends and family support my recovery and the mending process. Please have them regain their trust in me and my ability to follow through on promises and actions. I need their support and unconditional love.

I desire to live a pure life and to glorify your name for the rest of my life. My hope is in the mighty name of Jesus. I believe and pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Deuteronomy 20:4 “For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

Prayer for Forgiveness From Those Who Love Me as an Addict:

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I need help, Father. I come to you today asking for your strength and guidance as I struggle with addiction. I have been struggling for a long time and am tired of feeling trapped and helpless. I have let so many people down with the life I have been living. Lord, please show them how to forgive me for my actions and the pain I have inflicted in their lives.

My friends and friends have been there to support me through my addiction. I sense their disappointment in this evil disease I have lived with. Soften their hearts to see me as a child of God. Jesus healed those with all kinds of afflictions and diseases. Give my family and friends the mercy Jesus has. Empower me not to let them down as they continue on their journey of finding a way to forgive me for my actions. Help them understand this is not the life I want to live.

I also ask for your forgiveness for the harm that my addiction has caused to myself and others. Please help me make amends and heal the relationships my addiction has damaged. You tell us we are not to live a life alone. I need my family and friends in my life. Please make this happen miraculously.

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own…”

Heavenly Father

I repent for abusing this body you have given me. I acknowledge that my body is your gift, and I am called to treat them respectfully and in honor. Yet, I have knowingly or unknowingly harmed ourselves through unhealthy habits, addictions, neglect, or abuse.

I ask for your forgiveness and healing for the damage I have caused to my body, mind, and spirit. I ask that you renew me with your grace, mercy, and love so that I may honor you with my body and glorify you in all I do.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Help me to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle that honors you, including good nutrition, exercise, rest, and self-care. Guide me to make wise decisions that honor my body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. I bind the spirit of temptation that Satan may send me; he has no power over me as I am a child of God.

I offer these prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, who died and rose again to give us new life. Amen.
